Australian Catholic University, or as it is informally known ACU National, is the only public Catholic university in Australia. ACU National was founded in 1991 through the amalgamation of four higher education Catholic Institutes in Queensland and New South Wales.
The Australian Defence Force Academy or, ADFA is military academy that provides both tertiary education, and military training for junior officers of the Australian Defence Force. Charles Darwin University, also known informally as CDU, is a public university located in Darwin, Northern Territory. CDU is the only university in the Northern Territory, and offers dual sector education, providing both higher education courses, and TAFE courses, with flexible study options. CDU is the largest tertiary education institution in the Northern Territory, and has five campuses in Darwin, as well as three training centres in Jabiru, Tennant Creek and Yulara.
Charles Sturt University, or as it is informally known CSU, is a multi-campus university, situated in Victoria, Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. CSU was formed on July 1, 1989 and has the distinction of being the largest non-metropolitan university in Australia, providing 496 courses.
Curtin University of Technology, or simply Curtin, is located in Perth, Western Australia, and is the state’s largest university. Curtin University began operating under its current name in 1986, and previously operated as the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT). The university named after John Curtin, a former Prime Minister of Australia, who led Australia during part of World War II, from 1941-1945. The University has a large student body of over 42,450 students, including 16,000 international students. This large student body is supported by approximately 3,000 staff.
Deakin University, or simply Deakin, is a public university with campuses in Geelong, Melbourne, and Warrnambool, Victoria. The university was formed in the 1970’s, and is named in honour of Alfred Deakin, the ‘Voice of Federation’, and Australia’s second Prime Minister. Alfred Deakin was the Australian Prime Minister three times between 1903 and 1910.
Edith Cowan University, informally known as ECU is a public university located in Perth in Western Australia. The university has the distinction of being the only Australian university names after a woman, Edith Dircksey Cowan, who was the first women elected into a parliament in Australia.

James Cook University, informally known as JCU is a public university located on Townsville, Australia. James Cook University was founded in 1970 in Townville, and is the second oldest university in Queensland, and the first tertiary education provider in North Queensland.
La Trobe University, or simply La Trobe, is the 3rd oldest university in Victoria. La Trobe was founded in 1964 by an Act of Parliament. La Trobe has seven campuses in Victoria, and has the distinction of being named after Charles Joseph La Trobe. Charles La Trobe was one of the early colonial leaders in Victoria, undertaking the task of being the first Lieutenant Governor of Victoria from 1851 to 1854 and was also the first Superintendent of the Port Phillip District from 1839 to 1850.
Macquarie University, or as it is informally known, Macq Uni, is a public university located in Sydney, New South Wales. The main campus is located at Macquarie Park, 16km from the Sydney CBD. Macquarie University was established in 1964 by the New South Government. The student body at Macquarie University is diverse, with 30% of students originating from overseas, and 35% undertaking postgraduate study.

Queensland University of Technology, informally known as QUT, was founded in 1989, and is located in Brisbane, Queensland. Although QUT was founded in 1989, its predecessor institutions can trace their origins back for 140 years. QUT is one of Australia’s largest universities, with a student body of 39,233 students, 5,000 of which are international students from over 90 countries. This large student body is supported by a full time staff of 3,805, with a student to staff ration of 22 to 5.
The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, also known by the acronym RMIT, is a public university and vocational education provider situated in Melbourne Victoria. The university was founded in 1887 by philanthropist and grazier The Hon. Francis Ormond, making the university the 7th oldest in Australia, and the 3rd oldest higher education institution in Victoria. RMIT has two key branches, RMIT University, which encompasses RMIT TAFE, and RMIT International University.
Southern Cross University, or as it is informally known SCU, is a regional university located in the north coast of New South Wales. Southern Cross University was formed on 1st January 1994 as a result of the decentralization of University of New England campuses, which was formed in 1989. SCU was formed under an Act of Parliament, and since its formation has grown quickly, with a current student body of 15,000 students.
