I may be speculating here when I say for most Victorians New Years Eve revolves around water, parties and alcohol, lots and lots of alcohol. Melbourne can keep its high population parties and police checks. Come New Years Eve people should pack up and take their swags out to the country. Here is where the real party lies. My New Year seems to start off with fleeing the big smoke to return to the little town I grew up in.

Last year I welcomed in the new year watching Cool Runnings on TV with my Mum snoring on the couch next to me. This year was slightly different. I was on a beach in Koh Phagan, Thailand. Or is it Koh Phagnan?
